We are one of the professional ball valve manufacturers, mainly producing plastic ball valves and PP fittings. Among them, it is worth mentioning that the PVC plastic ball valve. PVC (polyvinyl chloride) ball valves are widely used plastic globe valves. The valve contains a rotatable ball with a hole. By rotating the ball a quarter of a turn, the hole is aligned or perpendicular to the pipe, and the flow is opened or blocked. PVC valves are durable and cost-effective. In addition, they can be used in a variety of media, including water, air, corrosive chemicals, acids and alkalis. Compared with brass or stainless steel ball valves, they have lower temperature and pressure ratings and lower mechanical strength. They can be used for different pipe connections, such as solvent sockets (glue connections), different flange types or pipe threads. Double union valves or true union valves have separate pipe connection ends, which are fixed on the valve body by threaded connections. A true union ball valve with socket and manual handle is the most common. The valve can be easily removed for replacement, inspection and cleaning.
PVC production
PVC stands for polyvinyl chloride and is the third most commonly used synthetic polymer after PE and PP. It is produced by the reaction of 57% chlorine and 43% ethylene. Chlorine is obtained by electrolysis of seawater, while ethylene is obtained by distillation of crude oil. Compared with other plastics, PVC production requires much less crude oil (PE and PP require about 97% ethylene gas). Chlorine reacts with ethylene to form ethylene dichloride. It is processed to obtain vinyl chloride monomer. This material polymerizes to form PVC. Finally, some additives are used to change properties, such as hardness and elasticity. Due to the relatively simple production process and the high availability of raw materials, PVC is a cost-effective and relatively sustainable material compared to other plastics. PVC has strong resistance to oxidation by sunlight, chemicals and water.
What is U-PVC and C-PVC
U-PVC or PVC-U is an abbreviation for unplasticized polyvinyl chloride. This material is also called rigid PVC. When it comes to PVC as a valve housing material, it is actually unplasticized PVC. U-PVC does not contain phthalates and is only used for flexible PVC.
CPVC or chlorinated PVC has high heat resistance, so it can be used for hot water. CPVC is obtained by chlorinating PVC. The aqueous solution of PVC particles is chlorinated and exposed to ultraviolet light. The chlorine content increased to 67%. CPVC is more expensive than ordinary PVC, so it is only used for niche applications, such as water heaters.
PVC performance
The following list provides a general overview of the important characteristics of the material:
Light weight, strong and durable, long service life
Compared with other plastics, it is suitable for recycling and has relatively little impact on the environment
Commonly used in sanitary applications, such as drinking water. PVC is an important material used to store or transfer food.
Resistant to many chemicals, acids and alkalis
Most PVC ball valves below DN50 have a maximum rated pressure of PN16 (16 bar at room temperature).
PVC has a lower softening point and melting point. Therefore, it is not recommended to use PVC at temperatures above 60 degrees Celsius (140°F).
Application field
PVC valves are widely used in water management and irrigation. PVC is also suitable for corrosive media, such as sea water. In addition, the material is resistant to most acids and bases, salt solutions and organic solvents. Therefore, in applications that use corrosive chemicals and acids, PVC is usually chosen instead of stainless steel. PVC also has some disadvantages. The most important disadvantage is that conventional PVC cannot be used for medium temperatures higher than 60°C (140°F). PVC is not resistant to aromatic hydrocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbons. The mechanical strength of PVC is lower than that of brass or stainless steel, so the pressure rating of PVC valves is usually lower (PN16 is the normal value for valves below DN50). List of typical markets using PVC valves:
Home/Professional Irrigation
Water treatment
Water feature and fountain
Aquarium
landfill
swimming pool
Chemical processing
food processing
The pp compression fittings are very much like the name suggests: the fittings are welded directly to the pipe. Trained and licensed professionals usually perform this difficult task, fusing pipe fittings to pipes by carefully melting the metal together. Generally, fittings and pipes need to be made of the same or very compatible materials. After welding, the accessories are often tested to ensure their integrity.
