There are many configurations of fiber optic jumpers and splice boxes for many specific purposes.

No matter how you call them, they describe a Optical Cable Connector Box that contains equipment for connecting various fiber optic cables.

Fiber optic cabinets come in different configurations, such as rack mount, wall mount, and indoor or outdoor.

The rack mount type is suitable for 19 inch rack mount. Depending on the number of connections required, they may be one or more tall rack units.

One type uses a fixed front panel (usually 12 slots) to mount the appropriate adapter. The other contains 3 removable front panels, each of which can accommodate 6 to 12 simplex or duplex adapter panels. See examples of this type of fiber optic jumpers and splice boxes here.

There are two types of rack-mounted chassis. One is a slide-out type and the other is a removable lid. The slide-out type is more expensive, and the cover type is cheaper, but requires the user to remove the entire chassis from the rack to enter the interior.

Fiber optic adapters are installed in cutouts in the housing to accommodate a variety of fiber optic connectors. Adapter-matched fiber pigtails (fiber optic cables with connectors on one end), and the fused pigtails are stored in the splice tray.

Fiber jumpers and pigtails can be single-mode (SM) yellow or multi-mode (MM) orange.
