Whether you’re riding the Northeast Regional or connecting to the Cardinal line, Alexandria makes for a practical launch point. You can take a short ride into D.C., or go all the way to New York, Boston, or even Chicago. The connections are solid, and the trains are on time more often than not.
For day trippers, it’s a great stop. You can walk around Old Town Alexandria, enjoy the waterfront, grab a bite, and still catch a train without the hassle of a long drive or airport delays. I’ve even used it as a base to visit museums in D.C. without staying in the city itself.
