who grew up watching her mother run a busy hair salon in St. Thomas -- was completely amazed after getting her first weave. To get more news about weave hair, you can visit monahair.com official website.

“My mom got me my first weave around 14 years old, and that was it for me. I was like, ‘wow’ you braid the hair down and then you attach something to it,” she said, noting she immigrated to the United States at age 9 with her mother and her grandmother. It all started with me not knowing how to cornrow, so I would practice on my boy cousins’ hair until I got the hang of it... I practiced on my cousins until I got the hang of sewing and the placement of a track. Because if you don’t place it right, then the whole head doesn’t look right,” said Brown.

“With my mom as a retired hairstylist, my hair was alway done in different styles. Eventually, I started doing simple styles on myself and friends,” she added.

While pursuing a degree in business management at the College of Staten Island, Willowbrook, she learned one semester that there was a problem with her financial aid.Unable to pay for classes, she decided to follow her true passion and went to cosmetology school at the Career School of New York in St. George.

“I had to withdraw from my classes at CSI, and after that I decided I needed to go to cosmetology school,” Brown said. Now a hairstylist for eight years, she calls herself a “weaveologist” who specializes in weaves, wigs and extensions. She also makes custom wigs. She also colors wigs and weaves, she said. And in July she opened Studio 11 Beauty Bar at Sola Salons -- a franchise that includes 29 individual studios in Port Richmond.

“I’ve always done hair part-time, but in 2016 I got pregnant with our beautiful daughter, Amora. I immediately knew that it was time to follow my passion, so I formed my business entity, Studio 11 Beauty Bar,” she said, noting that her fiance, Reid, was very supportive in her endeavor.

“Becoming a mom has motivated me to do the things I use to pray I’d have the strength to do. I am beyond thankful for my family and my clients who have supported me on this journey,” added Brown.
