Help students learn geography while they line up by placing a giant world map on a prominent wall in your school. Position the card so that the top is just above eye level. To increase connection with the map and reinforce geography lessons, place markers on important cities or countries; place a matching marker on the wall with an interesting fact or current event. Ask teachers to give you feedback on the topics their classes have studied so that you can personalize the facts so students can recognize them.
Holiday traditions
Around the holidays, create a festive atmosphere and increase understanding of other cultures by setting up a display of holiday traditions. Emphasize holiday traditions around the world, like Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Saint Lucia's Day, and Chinese New Year. Show pictures of the costumes, characters, foods and celebrations associated with them. Include text on the story behind the vacation. In doing so, you can promote interest in cultures around the world and make all students feel welcome and welcome in various holiday celebrations.
School over the years
To celebrate your school's history and show students how it has evolved, set up a photo exhibit with historical images. Search your archives or ask elders in the community to find photos from the school opening until today. If possible, look for photos with the students that show the dress and styles of the time. Collect alumni stories to post with photos for added effect.
Hall of fame
Celebrate the achievements of your students with a Hall of Fame that changes every year. Include photos of groups and students with remarkable accomplishments; make sure to cover the range of student activities so that everyone feels represented. You could submit a photo of the cast of the school musical, Science Olympiad, or sports teams. Also remember to congratulate the best students, the most diligent kids, or the kids who did interesting things outside of the classroom.
