Im in or was in precisely the same boat as you. I have been playing with cheap NBA 2K MT and watching basketball but started last 19, getting big into 2k. There was alot of little things I overlooked like hedging. I would recommend LakerFan on YouTube. He clarifies how it can be incorporated within 2k and alot of basketball IQ. Example. Bigs are better due to their quickness. They run back to the paint and can pick up off the 3 a screen.
Basically to break down park 3. The 1, is the focal point of offense. They bring up the ball and run the crime. The 2's job is to close down the other 2 by sitting at the corner and making it a 2v2 match with choice and roll and supply space. Otherwise, they are there to safeguard the shield. The 3s is your big. They catch boards, play defense and sometimes disperse the floor.I would urge you being somewhat sharp. You'll be in the 2 place but your job is to receive buckets. Need your center and you will need to run wraps with your PG. A good way to learn more but be involved in the crime more.
I'd recommend making a PG build and enjoying the career mode that is my a few seasons to get better at learning how offensive performs and sets function, speed, shot and pass time breaks and spacing. The game physics take some getting used to. Attempt to run the plays instead of freelancing.
