On May 11, 2021, Times Higher Education (THE) released the results of the second China Subject Ratings, which cover 90 universities in Chinese mainland and 1,420 universities in the rest of the world. The Ratings are based on the Chinese Ministry of Education’s classification of subjects, measuring performance in 89 subjects, with a rating system of grade A+ to C-. Overall, China scores an average grade of B+ in the ratings, above the global average of a B.Shanghai Jiao Tong University performs well in the Times Higher Education (THE) China Subject Ratings, with 35 subjects given grade A+. Among them, three primary subjects undertaken by ACEM, namely Business Administration, Management Science Engineering, and Applied Economics, are rated A+, of which Business Administration and Management Science Engineering are leading in the list.It was reported that in July 2020, the Times Higher Education (THE) released the first version of China Subject Ratings (test version), and then after a series of index system design and optimization based on the extensive feedback, released it again this year. China Subject Ratings are characterized by the comparison of Chinese universities and the universities worldwide based on Chinese Ministry of Education’s classification of subjects, to provide a platform for the universities of different types and specialties in Chinese mainland for comparison and display of academic strength with their counterparts all over the world.
