Mentioning that a senior AL leader had instructed Chhatra League leaders and activists to take control of the polling stations from early morning, he said that the leader had made inciting speeches and that the voters would not accept any bid to occupy the polling centres.

‘We will guard the polling centres, keep free these from occupiers and create an environment suitable for the voters to cast their votes,’ he said.

Dhaka north city BNP candidate Tabith Awal, after offering his jumma prayers at Azad Mosque in Gulshan, talking to reporters, urged the voters to go to the polling centres defying all the obstacles and fear and to exercise their voting right.

He also said that it was the commission’s obligation to ensure that the voters went to the polling centres fearlessly and cast their votes themselves.

In the Dhaka South City, seven candidates are contesting for the mayoral post while 460 for councillor positions while 102 councillor slots are reserved for women.
