After visiting the Siddheswari Girls School polling station, Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Shafiqul Islam told reporters that the police department would take all-out preparations for ensuring a peaceful environment during the polls.

He said that police would arrest any unauthorised people if they entered polling stations.

According to the EC secretariat, in Dhaka north city, six candidates are contesting for the mayoral post while 251 are contesting for the councillor slots while 77 councillor positions were reserved for women.

The six mayoral candidates are Awami League’s M Atiqul Islam, BNP’s Tabith Awal, Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Sheikh Md Fazle Bari Masud, Communist Party of Bangladesh’s Ahammad Sajedul Huq Rubel, National People’s Party’s Anisur Rahman Dewan and Progressive Democratic Party’s Shahin Khan.

AL’s Atiqul Islam urged the BNP to stay in the polls till the results as victory and defeat are part of the polls.
