Robusta coffee beans originate from West and Central Africa, while Arabica coffee beans are native to Ethiopia. Arabica grows at higher altitudes between 5000-7000 feet above sea level compared to Robusta which grows at lower altitudes between 1000-4000 feet. Arabica plants are more sensitive to their environment and require protected growing conditions with shade. They have a longer maturation time of around 7-9 months. On the other hand, Robusta is more resistant to disease and pests and has a shorter maturation time of about 6-8 months. It can grow in direct sunlight and a wider range of climates.
