Tissue Paper: An Essential and Versatile Material

Tissue paper, also known as crepe paper, is a very light crêped paper or thin paper. It is manufactured by running paper pulp between heavy textured rolls to form its characteristic crinkled texture and light weight. It comes in various colours and designs and has a wide range of uses due to its absorbency and versatility.

Properties and Production of Tissue Paper

Tissue paper is made from natural wood pulp or recycled paper. The paper pulp is bleached to give it its characteristic whiteness and sheerness. It undergoes a wet-lay process where the pulp slurry passes between rolls and the water removed. This crinkles the paper into its trademark texture. Tissue paper is very lightweight, usually between 5-30 gsm (grams per square meter).
